For those of you who don't know already, I'm no longer living at the Windemere
Apartments. It's a long story which resulted in a difficult decision, but among
other things my mother is ill and the time seemed right to move back into her
house on 39th Street, east of Prospect.
Over the years on Armour I've met many interesting people and had many
interesting experiences, and came to realize what special places Armour
Boulevard and the Hyde Park neighborhoods are. Armour itself is pivotal to the
entire Kansas City Metroplex. I like to think of it as the spine of the
metropolitan area; everything connects to Armour. This is the way it's always
been, and will always be.
It's not an exaggeration to say that what happens on Armour will happen
throughout the Metroplex. This is why I stayed on the Boulevard for so long,
and was involved in so many things. And this is why I still have great hopes
for the Boulevard and its unique apartment building community.
Armour is truly a melting pot for all people, and a great stopping point on the
way to home ownership. Armour is also a school for neighborliness where folks
can learn how to be good neighbors. The lessons learned on Armour can be
carried to whatever new location former residents decide to purchase a home.
This is why the owners and managers of the apartment buildings are so special.
They will literally influence the future of Kansas City by the kind of
experiences their residents have.
As I leave the area I encourage each and every one of you who read this note to
take an active role in the shaping of your neighborhood. Establish alliances
and partnerships, and most of all encourage the owners and managers of the
apartment buildings to work together to improve the quality of life on the
Boulevard. And thanks for the memories.
